Stockholm Archipelago Trail

The Stockholm Archipelago Trail is a new long-distance trail that spans 20 islands in the Stockholm archipelago — a unique way to hike between sea, forest and cliffs, with the ferry as a natural part of the experience.

Stockholm Archipelago Trail — A new way to discover the archipelago

After years of painstaking work, Besök Stockholm together with trail coordinator Michael Lemmel created something unique: a new long-distance trail through the Stockholm archipelago — Stockholm Archipelago Trail (SAT). The approximately 270 km long trail stretches from Arholma in the north to Landsort in the south, winding over 20 different islands. It is a trail that literally allows you to hike across the sea — between stages you can take a ferry, providing a close to nature and varied experience. The trail has received enormous publicity in the media worldwide. This was probably something we all longed for.

Spring nature guide Lina had to go on a boat trip around several of the islands that are part of the trail. She quickly realized that each island offered its own character — from dramatic cliffs and dense forest to tranquil coves and open meadows. Michael Lemmel, who personally carried out everything from buckles to handmade benches, spoke engagingly about the project and the many gold grains along the way.

Grinda — A pearl in the archipelago

If you are at Siggesta Gård, it is easy to make a day trip to Grinda, one of the most exciting stages along the SAT. The island is reached by ferry from Lillsved (only a short trip away), and you get off at Södra bryggan. At the wärdshuset you will be met by a large information board with a clear guide map, and then you just have to start trudging.

The trail around Grinda is well marked with color codes — blue for the sea, yellow for the sun and a reflex symbolizing the horizon. The markings make the trail easy to follow, even with a headlamp if you venture out at dawn or dusk. Go in the direction shown on the map.

Grinda is a hilly island with beautiful mixed forest, viewpoints, bathing bays and several new barbecue areas. For the adventurous there is a tent site out on a promontory, while others may choose to take a break at one of the deployed benches and just enjoy the archipelago scenery. You can also easily get back to the wärdshuset without having to walk the entire trail around the island. The northern stage of the island is more technical than the other parts.

After a day trip on Grinda you will return to Siggesta Farm — tired legs, fresh sea air in the lungs and ready to crawl into our soft beds with fluffy duvets.
